Simple Fish Pie Recipe

A very tasty and simple fish pie recipe

Looking for a simple fish pie recipe to serve the family one night? Well look no further here is one of the easiest that you will find around. A quick and easy recipe that will have you enjoying a fabulous dinner and will have your family wanting more by the time they are done.
There are not many ingredients in this recipe; this is why it is simple enough. You have fish, mashed potatoes, cheese sauce and that’s it. There is a cheese sauce recipe that you can use on this fish pie that is also from the same person who recommended this easy to make dish. If you would rather not make the sauce from this recipe you can use a packet, however with those you do need to be careful of the salt content.
Here are the ingredients that will work best for your simple fish pie recipe:

  • For your fish you can use trout, salmon or cod, even some other sort if you like them better, but you will need 400 grams of that item.
  • Potatoes will require a total of 700 grams.
  • For vegetables frozen peas are suggested, but you could use corn or carrots or some other choice if you would like, but have 150 grams worth of whatever vegetable you choose.
  • Butter will be needed, around 60 grams.
  • Any type of cheese will work great but you will need to have grated cheese and at least 80 grams of it.
  • Other items include milk, salt and pepper and a little vegetable oil.
  • Your cheese sauce should have these ingredients:
  • 75 grams of cheese
  • 1 pint of milk
  • 40 grams of flour
  • 40 grams of butter, unsalted
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Your sauce can be made the night before so all you will need to do is place it on top of the pie before placing it in the oven. Do so by adding the flour butter and milk into a saucepan whisk and bring to a simmer. Continue to whisk the sauce until it is glossy, than lower to a gentle heat for 5 minutes. Add in your cheese and whisk the cheese in until it melts. Add in your salt and pepper to the taste that you enjoy. Chill in the refrigerator until you need it for the next day.

For the fish pie you will need to heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Get a baking pan and place your vegetable oil on the bottom (this will allow the fish to not stick to the bottom of your pan). Place your fish into the pan with the skin side down and add in your pepper and salt, also pour a little of the milk over the fish, until you have about half of it covered. Peel the potatoes and cut them into little chunks, and boil in a pan or even a steamer so you keep more of the nutrients inside of them.

Now place your peas into a saucepan and add in the salt, do not boil the peas but only lowly heat them. Our fish should be placed inside of the oven and cooked for around 20 minutes. Watch the peas and once they are close to boiling take them off the stove and drain them.

After your 20 minutes are up take the potatoes off and also take the fish out. The milk that you used to cover the fish, take off and keep for the mash you will be making. Turn that oven up to around 425 degrees at this point.

You are going to what to take the milk skin off the dish where the fish were made in, as well as removing the skin from your fish. Make about 1 inch pieces with your fish, and place them across the bottom of your pan evenly.

Mash your potatoes and after they are nice and smooth add in the peas to the mix, gentle mix the potatoes and peas together. The cheese sauce that you made the night before should be placed on top of the fish. After that is on place the mixed up peas and potatoes and spread it out evenly on top of the fish.

Place the grated cheese on the top of your mixture and place it inside of the oven, cooking for 20 minutes. If at this time you are planning to cook anything else with the fish pie you can do that. However, if you are going to simply eat this delicious fish pie you can clean up those dishes and wait until the pie is done and you can eat.
